Wedding Themes & Color Ideas + Wedding Must Haves 2013
Jan 22, 2013
We know that many of our readers rang in the new year with marriage proposals: in our last post we shared proposal stories told by our Facebook fans and hopefully gave anyone in need of inspiration some great wedding proposal ideas! Next we wanted to know what brides were choosing as far as wedding colors and wedding themes for the upcoming season. New year, new wedding trends – and here’s what we got!
54 brides-to-be shared their color schemes and themes with us:
Red - 9
Orange - 6
Yellow - 4
Green - 12
Blue - 23
Purple - 19
Pink - 6
Gray - 5
Brown - 1
Black – 14
White – 9
Ivory – 6
Silver - 7
Gold - 1
Casino – 1
Rustic – 6
Vintage – 3
Peacock – 3
Spring/Garden – 1
Beach – 7
Winter – 1
Fall – 4
Fairytale – 2
Butterfly – 1
Love/Hearts – 4
Of course, most of the brides who commented had a specific color combination including 2 or more of the colors mentioned above. And one thing’s for certain, there were not many who commented and had the EXACT same color scheme! Based on our statistics, blue is the color of the season – especially royal blue or navy! Purple came in at a close second, whether it was lilac or eggplant. Many brides also claimed silver would also be an accent color in their palette (this was really common with the royal blue!). Black was mentioned in many of the color combinations too, so it’s obvious that brides are leaning toward darker hues for the 2013 wedding season.
There were two specific color combinations that more than bride had in mind: yellow/gray and black/white/red. And as you can see, three brides reported peacock-inspired color schemes or themes (think black, dark green, blue and purple).
Out of all the comments, there weren’t too many that boasted a certain wedding theme, though this isn’t surprising. Nowadays it’s less common for brides to choose themes that used to be popular such as fairytale or butterfly, but rather stick to a specific color scheme and have their wedding decor reflect their personality! But as we expected, rustic and vintage themes were the most popular. I have a feeling burlap will be making a bold statement at rustic weddings – we’ve got burlap favor bags, table and aisle runners readily available for the rustic bride! Lace keeps recurring in favors and accessories too, so I can only imagine it will continue to be an addition to vintage weddings. And of course, beach weddings will always be popular for summer, destination, or warm-weather affairs.
We also asked our brides what their one “wedding must have” is:

Carol C. from Vero Beach, FL is our winner! Out of all the brides who shared their wedding themes with us, hers was certainly the most original! Here’s what Carol had to say about her wedding theme and colors:
“We are doing a “Dr. Who” theme/wedding reception: think blue, black, metallic silver and bright white to break up the dark colors. Tiny Daleks all over the place, fans to keep cool at the outside ceremony, navy blue and white silk table colors, and blue glass vases! So much fun and unique, like the two people getting married!”
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the BBC-produced TV series, it’s a science fiction program that (as per Wikipedia) “depicts the adventures of a Time Lord—a time traveling, humanoid alien known as the Doctor. He explores the universe in his ‘TARDIS’, a sentient, telepathic time-and-space-travel machine that flies through the time vortex.”
And Daleks, (also as per Wikipedia), are “extraterrestrial race of mutants principally portrayed in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who.”
