How Many Ways Can YOU Say “I Love You?”

Apr 23, 2010

We recently had a bride come into our showroom looking for favors to coordinate with a really unique theme:  Love in 100 Languages.  She ended up choosing the Heart Shaped Love Theme Glass Coaster Favors featured in the picture to the left, each with the word “love” in English as well as a couple of other languages, and other love related words.  The ladies and I here at the office started gabbing about what a great theme idea it is, which inspired me to write this article.

Here at Little Things, love is [obviously] always the word of the day.  And not just in English, either.  Alecia, our Customer Service Manager, says “Ana Behebak” to her boyfriend.  That’s “I love you” in Arabic.  Marko, who works as our Search Engine Marketer, resides in Finland.  So coming from him, “I love you” would come as “Minä Rakastan Sinua.”  And if we ever need to say it in another language, the desk in our showroom is a glass table top with “I love you” scribbled on it in a hundred different languages.

Here’s ten different ways to say “I love you,” besides in English, and the other two languages featured above:

  1. Spanish – Te Amo / Te Quiero
  2. French – Je t’aime
  3. Polish – Kocham Ciebie
  4. Slovak – Lu`bim ta
  5. Gaelic – Ta gra agam ort
  6. Icelandic – Eg elska tig
  7. Chinese – Ngo oiy ney a
  8. Greek – S’agapo
  9. Hawaiian – Aloha Au Ia`oe
  10. Filipino – Mahal kita

A great idea to go with this theme would be branding each table as a different language/country.  You could use these Amor Glass Coasters or Asian Coasters, and also visit our Irish Theme Section for other great ideas.  Of course, we have many more favors available to incorporate with any theme at our website www.littlethingsfavors.com.

TGIF!  Have a great weekend, everyone!  Lots of love! <3 Kelsey

Planet Wedding: A Nuptialpedia

Planet Wedding: A Nuptialpedia

About two years ago, Harry Choron, contacted me – he wanted to use a few of my articles that I had published on our website in his upcoming book, Planet Wedding. Of course I was thrilled and honored to be included in such a wedding publication and signed the article releases right away!

Although it wasn’t my first time published (I had poems published way back in my high school days in Teen and Seventeen Magazines) and I’ve been an aspiring romance writer for a few years now – it was my first time that I was going to have my name in print in an industry wedding publication.  How exciting!!! And today, I finally received a copy of Planet Wedding - and there I was, on page vii – under the acknowledgments.   Wow!

Planet Wedding is a fabulous guide for brides-to-be, wedding buffs and the romantics at heart who not only want useful wedding planning tips but also history, information, cultural, funny stories and more – it really is everything you need to know about weddings. (Maybe even some things on wedding favors?)

Our Articles:

  • What Your Color Choice Really Means
  • A History of The Honeymoon

But Also includes Articles such as:

  • 69 Rules of Wedding Crashing
  • Ten Things the Bridal Industry Doesn’t Want You to Know
  • How to Tell If You’re a Bridezilla
  • How to Have a Green Wedding
  • 231 Money-Saving Tips
  • Wedding Customs from Around the World

It really is a useful book chock-full of useful tidbits and items you can use to help plan your own wedding!  And because I’ve been published in it, I would like to give away to one reader a copy of this book!  All you have to do is comment on this blog post for a chance to win – and please include your real email address when you comment (don’t worry, it won’t be published) so I can contact the winner.

Open to US Residents – US Shipping Only.  Contest ends on April 30, 2010 at Midnight EST.  Winner will be announced Saturday May 1, 2010!

Happy Wedding Planning!

25 Random Things About Team Little Things

Apr 13, 2010

  1. We started out in 2003 selling custom made “Lovesaver” wrappers to fit over standard lifesavers, we expanded our product line in 2004 selling on ebay as seller littlethings*favors
  2. In 2006 we closed down our ebay store to focus on our website, Two Hearts Favors while we developed our current website, Little Things Favors
  3. In August 2007 www.LittleThingsFavors.com was launched and fully functional
  4. In the beginning, we worked out of our basement in an 10” x 8” room – our chairs literally bumping into each other when we tried to “roll back”
  5. In September 2008, we opened our first showroom location – 137 Main Street in Sayreville, New Jersey – with a little over 700 square feet of showroom space and an office we could use!
  6. In February 2010 we launched www.LittleThingsBaby.com a website exclusively for baby shower favors and gifts.
  7. Although we started as a wedding favors company, we sell a variety of favors, wedding accessories and gifts – baby shower favors, bridal shower favors, Sweet 16, graduation, anniversary, religious favors and more!
  8. The most unusual use for one of our favors was used as “funeral favors”.  Who knew?
  9. We carry roughly 5,000 favors and gifts on Little Things Favors and 1,000 favors on Little Things Baby.
  10. We are a family oriented company and call ourselves “Team Little Things”  We celebrate everyone’s birthday, anniversary, holiday and even those “just because” events.  We are more of a family than an office environment.  We all love coming into work!
  11. We have an office joke that Monday’s are Mimosa Mondays – although we never officially have cracked a bottle of champagne open on any Monday!
  12. We could be “Glee” of the wedding favor industry.  We always have music on we are always singing, usually in unison.  There is a 99% chance if you call or visit, we’ll have music on in the background.
  13. There is always candy in the showroom / office.  Current offerings are Cherry Jelly Belly Jellybeans and Assorted Jordan Almonds.  But we love Finnish & Belgium Chocolate!
  14. The office is eco-conscious. We donate to Carbon Fund, recycle and reuse as much as we can.
  15. We also have donated to the Make-A-Wish foundation, March of Dimes, Cougars for Cancer, and other local causes.
  16. We love Halloween and we dress up each year.
  17. When we receive new products in our showroom we all “ohh” and “ahh” over our new “toys”.  We love getting new products just so we can test and sample the goods.
  18. Because we see our products in person, rest assured when you call us, you will get an honest opinion of an item you may be interested in.
  19. We are expecting two of our Team members, Leci & Kristi to be getting engaged shortly – and we can’t wait for it so we can plan the weddings!!
  20. We are obsessed with coffee.  From the moment we open the doors to the time we close – our coffee pot is brewing.  Erica loves organic Newman’s Own or Starbucks Zen tea while the rest of the girls seem to prefer Hazelnut.
  21. The last week of December Erica and Leci are usually in Finland.  This “girls-only” getaway has turned into a yearly event where they go for a week of great Scandinavian music concerts, spa trips, saunas, delicious chocolate and sub-zero temperatures. We’re trying to recruit the other girls in the office to come this year for our yearly retreat.
  22. We are animal lovers – we participate in National “Take Your Dog to Work Day” but occasionally, you’ll find one of Erica’s 3 Shih Tzu dogs in the office. We also have two Beta fish that live in the showroom.
  23. Erica & Chris’ 5 year old son is usually in the office after school, so if you call you may hear him in the background.  Often when customers are in the showroom, he’ll even suggest wedding favors for them!
  24. We’re not your typical wedding company – we have a bit of a rock n’ roll edge which inspired the color scheme for our website.  Our showroom reflects this in a funky, lounge inspired hot pink and black theme with modern furniture.
  25. There is a PC vs. Mac dispute in the office.  The guys all use Apple products where as the girls all work on PCs.

Hope these little random tid-bits about Little Things has shed some light on the great office I work in.  I am so thankful to have the most dedicated and fun group of employees to work with.  I would like to take this opportunity to say “Thank You!” to my staff: Leci, Kristi, Kelsey, Ben & Marko for making this all possible! Thank you to my husband Chris for putting up with many long nights of me plugging away at the website!  In June Little Things Favors will celebrate our 7th anniversary and I am looking forward to another great 7 years and beyond with you all!

Thank you Team Little Things!!

Love you!

Is She a Flower Girl or a Junior Bridesmaid?

Apr 13, 2010

Brides will always encounter problems and issues while planning their perfect day.  Recently here in our NJ showroom we’ve noticed that a couple of brides asked us the same question.  They have a young girl between the ages of 9-11 that they would like to incorporate into their wedding, but are unsure how to place her.  Is she a flower girl, a bridesmaid, or perhaps a junior bridesmaid?

Technically the age limits for the female wedding party goes like this:

Flower Girls:  Ages 3 – 8
Junior Bridesmaids:  Ages 9 – 15
Bridesmaids:  16+

If you have a girl young enough to pose as a flower girl, then go for it!  As the tradition goes, she’ll walk down the aisle while sprinkling flower petals from a basket.  For the perfect one to coordinate with your wedding, see our Flower Girl Basket section.

If the girl is too old to be a flower girl and too young to be a bridesmaid, she’s considered a junior bridesmaid.  She’ll be wearing the same dresses as your bridesmaids, but usually junior bridesmaids carry a smaller bouquet.  You can also use a pomander bouquet as an alternative.  A pomander bouquet is a ball of flowers carried by a ribbon.  This also works if you were really leaning toward having a flower girl in your wedding, because it will almost appear that she is holding a basket.  If you absolutely have to have petals sprinkled down the aisle, have your junior bridesmaid carry this Flower Girl Cone instead.  It isn’t exactly a basket, so you’re not following the traditional flower girl rule.

Of course, this is your big day, so anything you say goes!  You never have to follow the rules.  Check out our Silk Rose Petal section to choose the right color for you.

Happy Tuesday! <3 Kelsey

Wedding Poems That Say “I Love You”

Apr 12, 2010

Sometimes it’s hard to put into words, exactly what you would like to say.  Sometimes, its hard to write a blog which is balanced between a business blog and writing copy that will engage your readers.  One of the posts which I received the most feedback from was about what it was like to be an entrepreneur.  And when I thought about it, why wouldn’t I want to write my business blog, personally to you – our readers?  There’s only so much you probably want to read about new wedding favors, after all!

So, sometimes I even falter with the right words – and I can imagine that many of our brides and grooms to be, struggle finding just the right sentiment to express their love on their wedding day.

If you should know anything about our office and staff, it is that the majority of us adore quotes.  If you follow our facebook profile, you’ll see daily quotes.  If you walk in on any given day, we may be rattling off a favorite scene from a movie.  If you walk to my desk you’ll see a collection of fortune cookie quotes. And when you wash you’re hands over our bathroom sink you’ll be greeted with the quote, “True love stories never have endings.” – Richard Bach

Tonight, as I was watching HGTV, I was browsing a quote app on my iPhone for a love quote to post to my Twitter account. I stared at my phone and saw the following quote staring at me, “I love you not for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you.” – Roy Croft – It was a quote I had heard often, even used occasionally and is one of my favorite quotes.

After a little searching, I discovered the full poem in it’s entirety.  And that’s when I realized that my love of quotes could benefit our brides and grooms by finding love poems and quotes that could be perfect for ceremonies or wedding speeches, even vows.

So I would like to present to you one of my favorite quotes and subsequent poems which I think would be perfect to use within a wedding ceremony or reception. Stay tuned for more love quotes & poems that you can incorporate into your wedding in the upcoming months!

Have a wonderful Monday!

Love
Roy Croft

I love you,
Not only for what you are,
But for what I am when I am with you.

I love you,
Not only for what you have made of yourself,
But for what you are making of me.

I love you for
the part of me that you bring out;
I love you for
putting your hand into my heaped-up heart
And passing over all the foolish, weak things
that you can’t help dimly seeing there,
And for drawing out into the light
All the beautiful belongings
that no one else had looked
Quite far enough to find.

I love you because you
Are helping me to make
Of the lumber of my life
Not a tavern, but a temple;
Out of the works
Of my every day
Not a reproach
But a song.

I love you because you have done
More than any creed
Could have done
To make me good,
And more than any fate
Could have done
To make me happy.

You have done it
Without a touch,
Without a word,
Without a sign.
You have done it by being yourself.
Perhaps that is what
being a friend means, after all.
